Human Rights Advocates in Montreal Profiles |
Megan Webster
Megan Webster teaches Humanities at St. George’s High School in Montreal. In 2008, her grade 11 students took on the biggest school project of their lives. They decided to make a documentary film about life under the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.
From 1975 to 1979, the Khmer Rouge ruled over Cambodia during a period which is often referred to as the “Cambodian Genocide.” Under the dictatorship of Pol Pot, roughly 2 million Cambodians lost their lives as a result of forced labour, starvation and execution. Knowing very little about the Cambodian genocide or filmmaking, Megan’s students produced a stunning 30 minute film that not only changed their lives, but the lives of many in Montreal’s Cambodian community. |
