In 1994, over the course of just 100 days, between 800 000 and 1 million Tutsis were systematically murdered in the African country of Rwanda. The genocide of the Tutsis by the Hutus wiped out approximately 20% of Rwanda’s population. Most of the killings were performed not by the military, but by civilians against civilians, neighbours against neighbours.

Montreal is home to a large population of Rwandan genocide survivors. Page Rwanda is a growing organization that not only serves and supports the Rwandan community in Montreal, but focuses on transmitting memory of the genocide.
